Graduate Standard 7.2
“Understand the relevant legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes required for teachers according to school stage” (AITSL, 2014).
Legislative requirements refer to the legal requirement imposed on educators by statute, such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, the Working with Children Act 2005, and the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, amongst others.
Administrative requirements refer to the requirements that are necessary for the operation of an organization, through the maintenance of proper records. For instance, student assessment records, attendance records, permission slips, disciplinary records, etc.
Organisational requirements refer to the requirements that are imposed on organizational staff (eg. teachers), such as the requirement to enforce student behavioural standards, student disciplinary procedures, uniform guidelines, etc.
By complying with the various legislative, administrative and organizational requirements, we:
“help maintain safe… learning environments” (VIT, 2015);
“protect students from intimidation, embarrassment, humiliation or harm” (VIT, 2015);
“respect the rule of law and provide a positive example in the performance of civil obligations” (VIT, 2015); and
demonstrate integrity, respect and responsibility (VIT, 2015-b).
Within my practical experience, I have complied with legislative, administrate and organization requirements on a number of occasions, and in a variety of manners. Indeed, I continue to meet those obligations on an ongoing basis.
1. An example of my compliance with legislative requirements, includes:

Results:
My application was successful.
Evidence:
Redacted copy of my ‘Working with Children Check’ identification card.
2. An example of my compliance with organizational and administrative requirements, includes:
Situation:
Year 7 Humanities (Geography) 2006, Charles La Trobe P-12 College. Enforcement of Uniform Guidelines.
Task:
A male student entered the classroom, wearing fluorescent running shoes, t-shirt and a hooded sweater, in breach the school’s uniform guidelines.
Action:

Immediately thereafter, I complied with the school’s administrative guidelines by issuing the student with a ‘uniform pass’, and having it recorded onto ‘Compass’ (the school’s computer system) in accordance with the ‘Uniform Process’.
Evidence:
Copy of the Uniform Guidelines.
